Ryder
i! My name is Ryder and I have just moved in with Jerry, who needed a new friend to keep him company, as he was sometimes pretty lonely. He really misses Maria and of course, Abby, too. He found me via the Internet at the Second Chance Dog Rescue shelter, which is a privately run shelter in Fredericksburg, Va., where I have been living for several months while hoping for someone to need me and take me to a new home. Jerry came to the shelter, interviewed me and offered me a job, and I decided to take it, so here I am. Everything is strange and different here, but I think I will get used to it quickly. Ryder seems a pretty strange name for a dog, but that is the name that I came with, so I guess it will have to do. Eventually we will all get used to it, we hope. As you can see from my photo, I am a pretty handsome fella. I am a mixture of who knows what, maybe Dachshund and some Basset, I think. I am one of those dogs that you look at and say, "Exactly what are you?, and I just look at you as if to say, "I am a dog, and I don't care what type of dog I am, I just need a home to call my own". I'm a pretty easy-going and laid-back dog, and I like to have fun. I am a bit smaller than you might think. They say I am about three years old. I love to hang out and bask in the sunshine. I make friends asily, especially with anyone who will give me a belly rub! I was rescued from a shelter in SW VA. They have no background information on me, only that I came to the shelter and was in search of a forever home. At the shelter, I lived with several dogs of all sizes and seemed to get along with everyone. I am happy to be in my new home and am looking forward to my new life where I will have lots of attention, room to run and play, and lots of deer, rabbits, and squirrels to chase. I am not too sure about this cat who lives here, but I guess we will work that out in time. The lady who runs the shelter in Fredericksburg took good care of me and I am up to date on my meds and shots, and Jerry's vet at Kilmarnock Animal Clinic has checked me out and given me a clean bill of health. Come and visit me in my new home. Ryder
Lisa: Things are going very well here. I am learning the hard way that it is best to leave the cat alone, as she does not want to play or to be friendly with me. I still don't like going into my crate, but everything else is swell. I have comfy pillows to lie on in Jerry's office and in the family room. I have sneaked upstairs a couple of times when he was not watching, which I am not supposed to do, but I did not get into any trouble. We have received quite a few emails in response to the one that Jerry sent out about me - many addressed to me and from other dogs that belong to his friends! Several of his friends have been to visit me and have even brought treats and toys, although I am not much interested in toys but I do like the treats! The invisible fence man was here yesterday and moved the fence and upgraded it to the latest system and the smaller collar unit which works better for me. We have begun our training and I seem to learn pretty quickly so it should go really well. There are several other dogs in the neighborhood and sometimes we walk together, which I think is great fun. I think several of them must be related to me, as they are hounds of various types but mostly beagles. Also a spaniel. I hope all is well there at my old home.

Everybody loves this dog. He has such a great and easy-going personality. He loves everyone. He goes everywhere with me when I do errands and loves riding in the car. No one can really believe that he was in a shelter for so long., and are convinced that he was just waiting for me. I am glad that he did wait! He is wonderful company.
Jerry Dear Lisa: We are doing fine here! It is pretty quiet most of the time, but occasionally someone visits us, and I like that a lot. Just the other night, Jerry had friends in for pizza and a movie. I didn't get any pizza, but it was nice having company. I don't have to worry about getting swatted by that ill-tempered cat anymore. She was old and diabetic. She got real sick on New Year's Eve and Jerry had to take her to the vet and have her put to sleep. But it took me a while to get used to her not being here.
If there is any sunshine around, I will find it! It seems like warmer weather is coming soon and that means we will get to spend more time outside doing yard work. I guess my job will be to dig up the moles; at least that is what I hear that Abby did. I hope all is well there. Ryder
