Second Chance-Happy Tales

This is our favorite page on the website! Dogs in this section have found a happy home with their adoptive families through Second Chance. Once you have adopted a dog through Second Chance Dog Rescue, we would love to post your "Happy Tails" story and pictures here. Please email your stories and pictures to Lisa.

Second Chance Dog Rescue is proud to announce the following adoptions that have taken place since 2004. Most of the dogs that come into Second Chance Dog Rescue were either on their final days or very close to it. Each of the dogs that are taken into the rescue are examined by the vet and provided with all shots, as well as they are neutered or spayed and heartworm tested. The majority of the dogs are often very sick and may also need time to just "feel better". For many of you that adopted from us, our house was just the first step; your home has become your new pet's final step in finding his/her "forever home". Hopefully, as time has gone on, your new friend is settling in and the pain that we once saw in his eyes is turning into the joy of knowing that his forever home is one that is filled with love and security.

To read our happy tails simply click on the first letter of the dog's name to see the happy tails of all the dogs whose name begins with that letter.

Maggie (Formerly Joy)

3/12/2007

Yes Joy has a new name Maggie Mae. Maggie is getting back to herself, starting to chew on things, running around the house like a wild girl (which the kids love). She's already been to Petco, and had a wonderful time.

Max (Formerly Paddy)

Hi Lisa! It has been three months since I moved into my awesome forever home and I love it! I have grown three inches taller and gained three pounds since arriving here, and I have lots and lots of great toys that I share with my brother! He is afraid of the doggie door, but I go in and out all day long and love it! We have this nice large fenced in yard where we can run really fast and chase each other around!

Mom says we are going on vacation later this month, all the way to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I don’t know where that is, but we get to ride in the car, which I love, and we will stay in a motel and then go see my cousins! They have a nice fenced in back yard, too, so we can all run around and play together for a whole week! Then we get to ride in the car again and stay in another cool motel and come back home to Fredericksburg! Mom and Dad put pillows and things on the back seat, so we can see out the windows while we drive, and we have our seat belt harnesses so I don’t have to worry about my brother coming over on my side!

Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi and wish you a Happy Labor Day! I sure hope you find great homes for all those other doggies who need them! Tell them all hello for me. Love, Max (Paddy)

Maya (Formerly Misty)

Hi Lisa, Maya here, my Mom is writing this for me. I LOVE my new home, the 2 legged people are so kind to me. I've made friends on all most evey floor. oh the room that moves is fun. It goes up and down then the door just opens. Mom is being very careful with me. We go out then back in. She tells all I just had surgery so be careful with me.

Mom said next week I can have play dates with my friend Baily. You know that there is a 4 legged that lives here that's different from me. I give him a lot of respect, and so far we are getting along.

That's all for now.

Marbella

Hi Lisa,

This update is way overdue, but I thought I'd send you an email about Marbella. I got her from you May 2007 I think, time flies. Now its like she's always been here. She was slow to warm up since she was so afraid, but is doing great. I still think if I didn't have my other two dogs she never would have come home with me, but the first time she ran to me when she was scared instead of them I knew she trusted me. It was a long road and we're still on it, but she is definitely not the same dog that left your house that day. She is extremely playful at home and loves attention, I used to wake up nose to nose with her just because she decided it was time for me to pet her-not fun at 2 am. Now that she's more settled she makes sure she gets some petting before going to sleep and catches me when I wake up. She still doesn't like new people, so we don't have many visitors. She has become a world traveler now though. I took a new job last year that relocates me every few months, I wasn't sure how she would do with it. Turns out it was great for her! The constant changes help bring her out of her shell, instead of her getting into a routine. She lo//images/ves going on road trips and I couldn't ask for a better traveler. I had no intention of getting another dog until I saw her and can't imagine her not being part of our family!

Thanks so much! Bethany

Just wanted you to be sure that your Jellers is well taken care of and rules the ROOST!

Mystic

Hi Lisa, So glad to hear you keep copies of everything! You probably have our address then as well??!! Mystic looks much like her mom if my memory serves me correctly. I always thought Rigby had a beautiful face and Mystic looks much like I recall Rigby looking!

I've attached a photo so you can see what she looks like now. (She is almost as photographed as our children!!) We are so fortunate to have found her through you.... Brett and I laugh and say no person can get as comfortable as she can make herself on our bed or the couch!! : ) She is really a wonderful dog that we love and is part of our family : )

Thank you so much!! Linda

Maddie (formerly Bambi)

9/18/2014

Hi Lisa, Hope all is well! Just wanted to send a quick message with an update of how our Maddie is doing. We can't believe she will be a year old in less than 2 months!

While still relatively small (at around 21 lbs) she has a large and very loving personality! She loves to play fetch with her favorite toys, absolutely loves to chew, and is a total snuggler...as you can see from some of the pics below. Maddie loves romping and sleeping on the beach - just like us - and is doing well with house training and rings a bell at the door when she wants to go out. She definitely brings another level of energy and spirit to our family!

Hope all is well with you and everyone at the rescue! :) Take care & talk soon, Jessica Thompson & family
