Second Chance-Happy Tales

This is our favorite page on the website! Dogs in this section have found a happy home with their adoptive families through Second Chance. Once you have adopted a dog through Second Chance Dog Rescue, we would love to post your "Happy Tails" story and pictures here. Please email your stories and pictures to Lisa.

Second Chance Dog Rescue is proud to announce the following adoptions that have taken place since 2004. Most of the dogs that come into Second Chance Dog Rescue were either on their final days or very close to it. Each of the dogs that are taken into the rescue are examined by the vet and provided with all shots, as well as they are neutered or spayed and heartworm tested. The majority of the dogs are often very sick and may also need time to just "feel better". For many of you that adopted from us, our house was just the first step; your home has become your new pet's final step in finding his/her "forever home". Hopefully, as time has gone on, your new friend is settling in and the pain that we once saw in his eyes is turning into the joy of knowing that his forever home is one that is filled with love and security.

To read our happy tails simply click on the first letter of the dog's name to see the happy tails of all the dogs whose name begins with that letter.

Elvis (Formerly Memphis)

Elvis (Memphis) really a great dog. He's already learning the ropes of our household. He's getting better on the leash, waits when I ask him and is polishing his sits. Recall and healing will come later. There's a great sandbar I take Eli to where they can really run off leash without getting into any trouble or getting away, and he had a great time. He wore Eli out and kept on running, doing fly-bys at us until it was time to go. He wasn't fond of swimming, but seemed to love romping in the shallows. He has good sea legs too. Susan

Hi Lisa, I just wanted to let you know that Elvis (Memphis) is doing well. He's much better on the leash and at the door, and we are working on recalls and long stays. He gets along well with Eli and all of Eli's friends. He loves car rides and is getting close to swimming with encouragement. He has no fear of the water, but is not a fan of waves. Yesterday, he gave blood for the first time and did really well. I attached a photo for your website. Take care, Susan

Emily

Hi Lisa! Just a quick note to let you know that Emily is doing FABULOUS! She is VERY bonded to me and I am VERY bonded to her -- we are definitely smitten over each other!~ She is getting 5 walks a day and has a basket of toys and sleeps with me and has free range of the condo when I'm not home. She is doing well with the other dogs she's meeting in the neighborhood.

INALLY I have some pictures for you! Emily is doing sooooo well. She has made tons of friends in Fairlington. She loves to chase her squeaky ball in the big grassy area behind our building. And she loves to chase squirrels, which I of course only allow her to do in safe areas. She stays close to me and when we're out walking, she's constantly looking up at me. One neighbor whose Mom used to show dogs said that Emily has a perfectly stacked stance and that she looks like a show dog when we walk because she is always glancing up at me. I LOOOOOVE this dog!!! Thanks again so much for rescuing her! And thanks to the person/people in Southwest VA that rescued her from the campground. Could you forward this e-mail to them? I would love to be in touch with the person who found her!

How is retirement? Are you traveling yet??? How is Bodie??? And how are your other "kids" doing? Patti
