In 2015, Second Chance initiated Helping Paws. Second Chance Dog Rescue serves as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership as well as increasing public awareness of companion animal overpopulation issues and assisting with providing food to those in need. This program goal is to target the animals in our community at the most risk of being surrendered to our area shelters for reasons such as lack of food or spay/neuter services. We have partnered with Micah, Fredericksburg, Va only outreach program targeting our homeless community. Micah assists with services to those homeless persons in need. Each month, Second Chance provides approximately 300 lbs of companion food and litter to the center for their clients. This food is donated by area businesses as well as individuals wishing to assist us. In 2016, SPAYVA as well as the Virginia Federation of Humane Societies for recognizing us with a Spay/Neuter Grant to assist with our goal of reducing our areas pet over population. Additionally, we partnered with Spotsylvania Animal Shelter to host, "Reading to the Animals". A one of its kind in our area that focuses on companion animal education. Second Chance Dog Rescue also has partnered with Country Cats as well as Virginia Kincheloe Spay/Neuter clinic to give "Second Chances" for those animals as the most risk of being surrendered.

Shout Outs!

Karen:
Thank you for all you do, you are truly the best!

Deloris:
Thanks for helping us with the mounds of laundry we have each week

To my Volunteers that come each week:
You make this rescue. I often hear, "You have the best volunteers". You have no idea how proud this makes me. Thank you for all you do for both the dogs and me. You give up your weekends to help the animals and in an age when I often hear, teenagers are lazy, my response is always, NOT MINE!!!!!!
